Water holds immense importance in our bodies, life, on Earth, and in everything around us. It is as essential for humans as breathing. Despite being commonly known as just a liquid, upon closer examination, it reveals itself as a unique, precious, and mysterious marvel of nature that humans cannot replicate. Beyond quenching thirst, water serves a myriad of purposes such as generating electricity, supporting agriculture, aiding construction, and facilitating various other uses.If we delve into its molecular formula, water is represented by dihydrogen oxide (H₂O).

Sources of water:

Sources of water are diverse, and the water obtained from each source may vary slightly. We can obtain water from rivers, streams, oceans, recycled sources, rain, glaciers, wells, lakes, seas, and reservoirs.


Rainwater, formed through the condensation process, is stored in tanks and reservoirs. This water is exceptionally clean, fresh, and tasteless due to the filtration of salts and impurities during the condensation process. However, once it reaches the ground, it becomes contaminated, requiring additional filtration due to impurities present in the atmosphere.

Sea Water:

Sea water, abundant in approximately 50 seas on Earth, is salty in taste. Through desalination and subsequent filtration processes, salt and impurities are removed, making it suitable for use. This desalinated water is commonly used in regions where traditional water sources are limited, such as in Saudi Arabia.

Rivers & Lakes:

Rivers and lakes, with flowing and stagnant water respectively, provide tasteless and fresh water. If the surrounding areas are clean, this water can be used without filtration. However, even in such cases, filtration may be necessary, especially in areas with polluted rivers and lakes.

The uses of water from rivers, lakes, and other sources vary, ranging from household consumption to industrial, agricultural, and electricity generation purposes.


Glaciers found in cold regions such as Antarctica, Canada, and the Himalayas which are essentially formed when continuous snowfall in these areas compacts into ice, creating a “river of snow” due to the pressure. When these regions experience warmer weather, the glaciers melt, supplying water to rivers, oceans, and seas. While directly extracting water from glaciers is practically impossible, they play a significant role in the overall water supply.


When it comes to the benefits of water, there are unlimited advantages that extend from humans to animals, fish to birds, land to plants, from cooking food to generating electricity—water proves beneficial for everything in the world.
